Electric Igniters

If you are interested in purchasing an electric igniter for your gas lantern, here a few things you need to
know:

The CopperSmith has spent the past 6 years designing and testing a new igniter
specifically for their lanterns.  Electric Igniters being used in Gas
Lanterns, available from limited by 3rd parties, had previously proven to be problematic, to
put it mildly!!!  This new igniter has been thoroughly tested and
subjected to every type of weather condition the testers could throw at it and
the equivalent testing hours of 5 years.   With thousands now in place in
the market, we are happy to report the results have far exceeded our
expectations.   We will no longer try to talk you out of purchasing
an igniter when the additional cost makes sense for your application!

The new E-Lyte Igniter is 110 Volt with no transformers to worry about.  The
addition of these igniters allows you to turn your lantern on and off using a
wall switch or a timer or a photo cell installed on the circuit giving you
control over how long the lanterns burn.  In addition to the control they
offer, they will attempt to re-light the flame if it blows out.  It
will make 3 attempts to re-light and if unsuccessful, it will turn off the gas
flow.  This igniter was created to be very reliable, without the
addition of "bells & whistles” such as built-in timers or photo
cells, in order to keep it as trouble free as possible.

If you are purchasing an igniter, you will need a 110V
electric line run from a switch to the junction box where the lantern will be
installed.  You may also use a timer or a photo cell on the circuit itself.  Please speak

to your installer for advice. This igniter does not have a built in photo cell.

You will select the igniter under the Power Options listed on the product detail page of
whichever lantern you choose.  The cost of the igniter is the same for all
models regardless of the mounting type you need.  No big unsightly boxes
or oversized mounting plates attached to the back of the lantern or to the
bottom of the lantern.   This low profile igniter is completely self-enclosed to protect all the
internal components in even the harshest conditions and it is installed inside the lantern.

Should one ever fail, it is easily removed & replaced using the built-in modular
plug.  No one is going to be required to take one apart in the field and replace internal parts.

While no electronic device is ever 100% fail proof, we believe this igniter is as

close as we can come to that goal using the most advanced technology available.

If you are most concerned about flame blow out from high wind conditions, consider
purchasing a simple wind guard instead of an electric igniter. A wind guard is
usually sufficient for wind issues and much less expensive.  Using an igniter in

constant wind conditions actually shortens the life of the igniter becasue it has to work

overtime relighting the flame.  Igniters are more of a convenience and to re-light an

occassional blow-out.

Igniters make more sense for applications where the position of the
lantern makes it hard to reach for re-lighting, for vacation homes and for
those customers who travel frequently and have multiple lanterns to
control.  (We recommend that you turn your gas lanterns off if you are
going to be away from your residence for several days) and also for customers in
areas where gas prices are more expensive.  The cost to operate your lantern depends

on the cost of gas in your area.  It can range from as little as $10.00 a month to as much

as $30.00 per month depending on your areas gas prices.

The final cost of your lantern is based on Lantern Price + Size adjustment + Power
Source-including the addition of an Igniter, Wind Guard or Propane Burner +
Mounting Style + any additional Accessories, all of which are available to select
from your lantern's product detail page.  We offer many options to customize your

lantern at off the shelf prices.   The addition of the igniter will delay our normal 5 day

quick ship time by about a week.

This is the E-Lyte Igniter designed by The CopperSmith. Designed for simplicity of use, dependability and as low profile as possible.  The Igniter connects to your 110/120 like any other electric lantern, through the mounting plate to a standard junction box.   Please see the drawings for each different lantern and mounting style for the location of the gas line.  Most CopperSmith lanterns are connected to gas via a 1/4" flare fitting located on the bottom of the light.  Exceptions are Ceiling mounted lanterns which are connected via 1/4" fitting on a pre-plumbed yoke.  When you order an E-Lyte electric igniter, it will be installed in the lantern for your convenience, simply connect to the power supply, hook up the gas line and you're all set.
