HELP!  So many options, how do I order?

1 The Product List is a listing of all The CopperSmith Lantern Collections with a brief summary and a link to see more details.  The Product List Page is a good place to begin your search as it allows you a quick view of all the collections.  Our Home page also shows images of all the collections.   To see specific information about a particular collection and which mountings and accessories are available or to configure and purchase a lantern, click on the More Details Button under the image.  The link will take you to the Product Detail Page.

 2.  When you arrive at the Product Detail Page you will find a larger image that represents the collection shown as a standard wall mount in Gas and Electric and a list below it of available mounting and accessories to customize your lanterns.  There is a slide show of Lanterns with possible options on this page.

We have designed the Product Detail Page to allow you to customize your lantern to best suit your personal needs.  The price shown on the page is the starting price for the smallest lantern in the collection when sold as a standard wall mount. Standard Wall Mounts are included in the price of all lanterns.  As you go through the option drop downs making your selections,  you will see the price changes when you add an option that has a cost attached (+$).  Your total lantern price =  your lantern appropriately sized with your choice of fuel and ignition type + any additional mountings + any additional accessories.

Selecting Lanterns and Accessories-Now for the Fun Stuff

A.  Lantern Style:  First you will select your lantern style and navigate to the Product Detail Page.

B.  Lantern Type: On the Detail Page select the type of lantern you wish to purchase.  Gas-Natural Gas or Propane, with or without Wind Guards or Electric.  Wind Guards are simple inexpensive devices that help prevent flame blow out in regions where high wind gusts are an issue.  Wind Guards resemble a candle sleeve normally seen on
chandeliers.  They are made from copper and finished to match the lantern finish. These are very effective, economical way to prevent blow out and we highly recommend them,
especially for high wind areas.  You guys in Texas and Oklahoma, buy the wind guards!  There is a
size chart shown on the page that indicates the number of bulbs that
is standard with each size electric lantern and if the gas lantern has a single or double burner.  The lantern image may show 2 or 3 bulbs, but please
read the chart to see what is standard with your chosen size.

C.  Size:  Next you will select the size of the lantern.  This is the size of the lantern without any additional accessories added.  Please see the chart on the detail page.  The overall sizes with accessories are shown in the Technical Data File, listed in the Menu. (Currently under construction)  Call us for this information until we have all these files available on the site.  A quick rule of thumb:  Top scrolls add about 12" to the overall height as do bottom scrolls.  Top and Bottom London Finials when added as options are about 6" each.  Moustache brackets vary by the size of the lantern but you can estimate they add about 48" to the overall width of the lantern.  We have these files available, so call us.

D.  Power Source:  Next decide if your lantern will have a manual burner or the appropriate electronic igniter or select Electric for an all-electric lantern. Manual burners are standard on all gas lanterns and candelabra sockets are standard on all electric lanterns.  Please see the size chart.

E.  Mounting Styles and Accessories: Following these 3 required selection drop downs is a list of Mounting Types and Accessories for Wall Mounting, Ceiling Mounting and Post and Column Mounting. Scroll down the page to find the mounting style you need.  Your available accessories are offered in each group based on the mounting style.  Most
options will work on gas or electric Lanterns.  The few mounting options and accessories that are only available on electric lanterns are specified as such in the option list.  Flush mounted lanterns do not require any additional mounting bracket. The lanterns are supplied with hardware to mount to a standard 4x4 wall box.  We do not supply any fasteners that attach directly to your walls or ceilings. The hardware we supply is meant to be used with a standard junction box in the wall.  If you do not attach to a junction box, your installer will need to furnish the appropriate fasteners for your structure.  All Bracket mounted lanterns have a back plate that is 6" wide x 5" high.  This back plate is visible in the standard wall mount images.

IMPORTANT
*Please be aware that building codes require that you have
12" of clearance on a ceiling mount lantern from the top of the chimney stack (where the holes for exhaust are located) to any combustible overhead structure.  Side clearances to any combustible surfaces are 6" on each side.  The back clearance is taken care of by the mounting bracket that is supplied with the lantern.  The CopperSmith's standard Flush Mounted lanterns are CSA approved for mounting on combustible surfaces, however we recommend that you install a non-combustible barrier behind the fixture,  over wood framing members directly behind the lantern,  as an extra precaution.  Gas lanterns from the CopperSmith are rated for use outdoors only.

FSpecifications:  Line drawings and installation instructions for each Lantern and mounting type are available to help you with roughing in your gas and electric lines. This downloadable file is currently under construction on this site so please call or email to receive a copy of the drawings you need.  Sorry, but our web sites are always a work in progress.  In the image list under the main image you can find the drawings for the the standard wall mounted lanterns.  These will show you the relation of the gas line entry point to the center of the mounting plate. Call us if you need more help, we can email you what you need while technical files feature is under construction.  For a 3D view of a lantern showing the connections go to Mounting Illustrations page.

We have tried to make this process as simple as possible but there are a lot of options to choose from.  For the very best value in a copper lantern on the market today, take your time , study the information we have provided here to help you create your own personal lantern using The CopperSmith's standard lanterns and accessories. Remember you're making an investment in a product that should last a lifetime.  You can always call us if you encounter any problems or need help.

G.  Custom Lanterns:  The CopperSmith is a copper fabricator and they produce custom designs in copper if you don't see just what you need in their extensive product line.  Custom modifications to these standard lanterns are also available and usually less expensive than an all custom lantern.

 H.  Salt Water & Harsh Weather Environments:

Call us for information on salt water/air applications.
For areas subject to heavy snow and ice or if your lantern will be located directly under heavy run-off from the roof , we recommend lanterns with solid tops to prevent glass breakage.  Even our tempered glass can break in these harsh conditions when directly exposed to the elements.  Glass top lanterns are safe under porches or large overhangs.  Many styles have solid tops as part of their design and for those with glass tops, solid copper panels are an available option.  If you do encounter glass breakage, your glass can be replaced during the first year of operation at no charge.  After that time there will be a nominal charge for glass.

I.  A word about Electronic Igniters:  We strongly recommend you use manual burners whenever possible.  Please read the menu link on Electric Igniters

J.  Shipping:  All of the in stock standard lanterns and accessories usually ship within 5 working days from the time we place the order, via UPS.  Occasionally an order is too large to
ship via standard ground service and must be shipped via freight line. When this happens we will contact you and we will request that the freight line contact you 24 hours in advance of the delivery.  Please be sure to enter the best phone number for the delivery appointment. If an item is out of stock we will call you as soon as possible.  Our orders ship free within the US
mainland.  For all other areas, including Canada, please call us for a freight quote.
